Extremist? Certainly. How helpful to his case would it be for a prosecutor to play video excerpts in court from last year's convention showing the Russian dad forbidding his violinist prodigy son from accepting a conservatory scholarship, or a mom refusing to answer her lonely daughter's phone call?

Nor can someone simply and respectfully walk away from the religion with facing the severest of consequences the law will allow their leaders to inflict.. ostracism from family and friends, combined with pressure on these to observe the decree under fear banishment themselves.
That's why I must admit to ambivalence about the Russian ban even though I am otherwise an advocate for freedom of religion and speech.
So yes, I think "extremist" isn't too harsh a judgement as it relates to JWs, their anti-social attitude and worldview.

Memorial - from disgusted to feeling sorry
by UBM101 ini went with my husband tonight for the first time.
it was pretty appalling how they lied about the 144k and everyone else.
then passing the wine and bread for nothing.

A greater focus this year on the material rewards of serving God.. the "carrot" of life in the panda-petting vegan paradise... complete with large screen monitors conjuring WT visions of optimal health, big homes, etc. Otherwise, it was business as usual -- pretty much contrived to dissuade anyone from partaking.

Let me just say that's it's great to have the luxury of choice which too few have these days, although no doubt you will agonize over your final decision. There's much to consider -- the personalities involved, the relative stability and prospects of both companies, etc. -- and only you can decide.
Best of luck!

Marc & Cora on YouTube causing unnecessary divisions
by jambon1 inwhat is it with this pair?
why do they have to constantly have a bitch about guys like john cedars?
a very recent video of them shows them calling him a 'village idiot' and making other disparaging claims.
-

Whatever else these two may say about Cedars, and whatever his personal failings, he is manifestly not a "village idiot;" saying so only devalues their contributions.

tidbits from recent C.O. visit
by nowwhat? in"all people in the world are currently considered enemies of god" gee i wonder where some poeple get the idea that we are an extremist organization.. " jehovahs chariot is moving forward at blazing speed!
" in what reality is contraction and downsizing moving forward?.
"it used to be that if a congregation reached 150 publishers we would split into 2 congregations now if we have 2 congs.

It used to be that if a congregation reached 150 publishers we would split into 2 congregations now if we have 2 congs."
That's because in the years of double-digit increases they could count on growth..... now contraction is the order of the day.

July's watchtower leaves out some important info from a quote!
by stavro injerome over on discuss the truth has picked up on something interesting.. in the july watchtower on page 28 of the article entitled “winning the battle for your mind” the following statement is made “keep in mind that satan does not want you to think clearly or reason things out well.
because propaganda is likely to be most effective, says one source, if people… are discouraged from thinking critically.”.
the quote comes from a book entitled: “media and society in the twentieth century: a historical introduction by lyn gorman, david mclean" the watchtower however, chose to leave out a portion of the quote.. the full quote is "therefore, it is likely to be most effective if people do not have access to multiple sources of information and if they are discouraged from thinking critically.. the following sentence which the watchtower also decided was best not to include states,.

Watchtower & Guns
by freemindfade inapparently jehalapeno isn't a 2nd amendment supporter either.... .
july 17 questions from readers.... the way this part is worded screams cult to me, i was quite amused.. how a christian chooses to protect himself, his family, or his possessions is, of course, largely a personal matter, as is his choice of employment.. geee!
thanks watchtower for allowing me to "largely chose my own employment" you are a generous cult lol.

The fine print in this case is "LARGELY" ... as "largely (but not always)," etc.etc.
Another weasel word for the unwary.

What not to say...
by joey jojo inhey guys.
i was recently talking to a old friend who is a very active elder.
i was talking about ' the truth' and he suggested i sounded like an apostate because i used terms like ' the society' and ' watchtower '.. i am aware that ' dubspeak ' has changed over the years and i am pretty sure that someone posted about it here but i can't find the thread.
